Ibrahima’s Story of Living with Hepatitis B, Hepatitis Delta, and Liver Cancer in Senegal

Ibrahima’s story describes his experience living with chronic hepatitis B from a young age without knowing it, which led to delayed diagnosis and serious health complications. In 2010, he tested positive for HBV, and from 2011 to 2015 he faced HDV co-infection, intensive medical monitoring, expensive treatment, financial hardship, stigma, and job loss. His illness later progressed to liver cancer, requiring chemoembolization in Egypt in 2016 and a liver transplant in 2021, made possible by a donation from his daughter. He emphasizes the importance of hepatitis prevention, vaccination, testing, treatment access, follow-up care, research, and collective advocacy, including Ibrahima's founding of SAAFARA HEPATITES SENEGAL and involvement in global hepatitis organizations.
