Almost 300 million people worldwide, including 20 million Nigerians, have chronic hepatitis B. Dayo is from Nigeria and he is sharing his story as part of the Hepatitis B Foundation’s #BtheVoice campaign to bring awareness.

Dayo found out he had hepatitis B after getting injured in an accident and needing surgery. He didn’t know what hepatitis B was and he was scared. He didn’t tell anyone. Over time he learned more and learned how to take care of his liver by eating healthy and avoiding things like alcohol. His wife got protected from hepatitis B by getting the vaccination. He carefully weighs the treatment options available to him in Nigeria and makes smart choices for the good of his liver.

Many people don’t know they are infected with hepatitis B. 297 million people live with hepatitis B including 20 million Nigerians.

People living with hepatitis B can live a normal life. Seeing the doctor regularly, avoiding alcohol and tobacco and maintaining a well-balanced diet can help.
